Hairdressing Training Package
The Hairdressing Training Package is the national framework for skills development for the hairdressing industry.
It includes nationally recognised units of competency and qualifications to train and assess individuals in a range of hairdressing skills and occupations including:
- salon assistant
- salon manager, and
- creative/artistic director.
The SIH11 Hairdressing Training Package was endorsed on the 23 June 2011.
Qualifications and units
The training package consists of the following three components:
1. Competency Standards
The units of competency define the range of knowledge and skills that employees need within the hairdressing industry, and set out the level of performance required and the means for measuring that performance.
If skills are only required in one particular area, training and assessment can be completed in one (or more) individual skill or units of competency from the training package. When competent in these skills a Statement of Attainment is issued, which provides national recognition of their skills, and often also provides credit toward a full qualification.
2. Assessment Guidelines
The Assessment Guidelines is the policy document which describes the hairdressing industry's system for assessment against the Competency Standards.
The Qualifications outline how the competency standards are 'packaged' into qualifications aligned to the Australian Qualifications Framework.
- Certificate II in Hairdressing
- Certificate III in Hairdressing
- Certificate IV in Hairdressing
- Diploma of Salon Management
- Vocational Graduate Certificate in Hairdressing Creative Leadership
