Beauty Training Package

The SIB10 Beauty Training Package is the national framework for skills development for the beauty industry.

It includes nationally recognised units of competency and qualifications to train and assess individuals in a range of beauty skills and occupations including:

  • beauty therapists
  • beauty consultants
  • nail technicians
  • retail cosmetic assistants
  • laser/intense pulse light technicians

The SIB10 Beauty Training Package was endorsed by the former National Quality Council on 23 September 2010 and released on the former NTIS website on 10 December 2010.

Qualifications and Units

The training package consists of the following three components:

1. Competency Standards

The units of competency define the range of knowledge and skills that employees need within the beauty industry, and set out the level of performance required and the means for measuring that performance.

If skills are only required in one particular area, training and assessment can be completed in one (or more) individual skill or units of competency from the training package. When competent in these skills a Statement of Attainment is issued, which provides national recognition of their skills, and often also provides credit toward a full qualification.

2. Assessment Guidelines

The Assessment Guidelines is the policy document which describes the beauty industry's system for assessment against the Competency Standards.

3. Qualifications

The Qualifications outline how the competency standards are 'packaged' into qualifications aligned to the Australian Qualifications Framework.

  • Certificate II in Nail Technology
  • Certificate II in Retail Make-Up and Skin Care
  • Certificate III in Beauty Services
  • Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy
  • Diploma of Beauty Therapy
  • Diploma of Salon Management
  • Vocational Graduate Certificate in Intense Pulsed Light and Laser Hair Reduction
